Skydiving in Dundas
The wind was relatively calm. There was little in the way of cloud. A day every skydiver dreams of. This day could not be wasted. It was a great opportunity get away from sitting in front of a computer trying to meet deadlines and get active behind a camera. So with a Timmy’s coffee in hand and cameras in tow I arrived at Skydive SWOOP, a nearby drop zone.
The sport of skydiving and parachuting is not one of low key. Parachutes tend to be painted in prime colours and with a perfectly blue sky as a canvas I was hoping to capture some vivid pictures.
A quick chat with Harvey, the Club’s President, for permission and it was show time. OK – less of the “lights – sound – action’ drama.
In reality every sport has its angles when it comes to photography. Angles that need to be discovered and backgrounds that need to be considered, and so this day turned out to be a good practice effort. Although the orange canopy contrasting beautifully against a rich blue sky, especially the one with a commercial airliner up above as though on ” jump run” was particularly gratifying, I soon realised I was looking for something different. After seeing the shots I took, I gathered some ideas for next time.
For some reason jumpers tend to be a pretty much ralaxed group of folks – no stress and no worries involved, and it was nice being in their company, but deadlines have to be met and I had to leave.
Thanks to all at Skydive SWOOP
